Pill Box Kailua June 2009
This morning we were actually suppose to do the Palolo Kaau Crater Hike. However it had been raining the entire weekend and knowing the bad weather conditions decided to play it safe and do a hike in a dryer location. So our Hui met in the front of Macys Kahala at 9:30am and proceed out to Pill Box in Kailua under the recommendations of a good friend of mine and hiker partner Michelle who will be refered to as SXY in upcoming post. The total head count for this day was 15 hikers. We had a little stall in the morning waiting for others to check in and also to organize the day.
So we got the Hui together and set the first group ahead of us and followed behind out to Kailua.
We ended up at the trailhead about 11:00 am and all found parking around the golf course. We climbed to the 1st pil box within 30 minutes if not shorter. The climb consist of areas with ropes and very rocky terrain. It was really hot that day but the cool breeze up the first summit peak cooled us fast. Overall this is a hike I would do again if I had visitor that wanted to get a full effect of this islands' beauty. The views from atop are awesome with a scenic view of Lanikai Kailua Waimanalo & Kaneohe. Thank You SXY for a wonderful recommendation. Five Stars *****
Directions:
Drive into Kailua and head towards Lanikai. After passing the beach park you will come to a fork which leads you right : To Lani Kai peninsula. Take that turn and follow around the loop. Take your first right street which will lead you to the golf course drive up and to your left before entering the golf course you will see the TrailHead marked PILL BOX. There is a parking area, but if there is no parking there park along the county road. DONT PARK IN THE GOLF COURSE THEY WILL TOW YOU.
