This hike was done the same day as the Pill Box as everyone still felt a bit energetic to take on another hike. So we all convoyed back out to Kalihi Valley where we were stuck getting the correct directions to the actual trailhead. Eventually after calling a couple people we got the right instructions and proceeded to the entrance. Its simple really just drive to the very end of Kalihi Valley and you will come to a dead end that has a chain linked fence that blocks the entrance. But really its an optical effect. Theres a little cleared area to the right of the fence which allows for safe passage. The trail is very clear up a graveled very well maintained road. With many native tropical flowers such as red ginger, yellow ginger and clones of pikake. Gosh Ive never seen so many pikake in my life. It is actually my favorite flower aside from the puakinini. So we continued along the trail and past a water tank and also a forrest of bamboo. From a slight distance after about 20 minutes of hiking you will here water gushing. And eventually to your right you will notice a very slippery path leading down into the watering pool. It gets very slippery at this point and there is a rope with a couple of rebar mounted into the path to help hikers down. TAKE CAUTION. Once you arrive into the clearing at the bottom the visability of nature at its best awaits you. On this day the pool was very clean. The little ones enjoyed jumping from a low ledge while others chanced a higher jump. We spent about 1 1/2 hours here and began our hike back. Along the way our hui came across a stream with baby prawn. And some awesome huge ass tree stumps. I would recommend this hike for a day to hang out with some friends and have a couple beers and pupu's. Also we were fortunate enough to make the aquaintance of the property owner before the trail entrance who allowed all of us to park all our vehicals in his lot. Big Mahalos for that one. What a day that was.
Directions: Go all the way up to the back of Kalihi Valley until you hit the dead end. You will see a Board Of Water Supply acsess road which is blocked by a chain linked gate. Your best bet for parking is probabley a quarter mile down the road in the residential area but if at at possible I would try and as a land owner around there for parking along side their driveways near he trailhead. There is also another way to acsess this falls thru the Hwy. But it is dangerous as far as parking is concerned. There is also another trail which runs from Nuuanu area which is a trail I plan to cover in the future and will update info on this blogspot.
